About Para Onde O Samba Me Leva:
Para Onde O Samba Me Leva/Where Samba May Take Me pays homage to the great sambadeira, Joselita M. da Cruz Silva AKA Zelita whose life was dedicated to the preservation of the samba from the Reconcavo region of Bahia. Bahian choreographer Vera Passos explores the steps and rhythms of the samba chula style with the same intensity in which the late Zelita lived her life: with joy, love, creativity and deep ancestral stepping onto this earth. Passos states, “When I saw Zelita dance samba I saw my culture’s Black ancestral queens delicately enchanting the world, transforming everything and everyone around them. I was able to reimagine Zelita’s strength and magic in her samba which she generously shared to future generations–the gift of communal joy, innovation, and legacy.
