This week's Performance Spotlight is a Bolco Afro Motumbaxé Procession performed by Viver Brasil as the LA Philharmonic Launched their 100th anniversary in 2018

On September 30th, 2018 Viver Brasil performed for the LA Philharmonic's 100th anniversary launch. We performed a Bloco Afro Bahian Carnaval Style Parade with dancing and drumming in Hollywood. During this festive event Viver Brasil Dance Company processed down the iconic Hollywood and Vine with members of our Samba in the Streets/Leimert Park team!

Please help us welcome our new intern, Zuko Nyaawie!

Through the Arts Internship program, the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture "supports and strengthens the cultural sector of LA County by providing access to high-quality opportunities for college students of all backgrounds to gain experience, understanding, and transferrable skills relevant to careers in the arts, the creative economy, and engagement in public life."  For the last several years, we have had *stellar* interns and this year is no exception.

Zuko comes to Viver Brasil from State University of New York (SUNY), Purchase College, where she is pursuing a BFA in dance.  With a background in Arts Management, Zuko brings her social media expertise, fresh ideas, and creative perspective to our development and communications efforts.  Zuko is committed to mentoring youth in the arts having supported students in arts education and service-learning programs in Shenzhen, China and Cartagena, Colombia, respectively.  As a practicing artist, Zuko deploys her lived experience to the administration of our vibrant company.   We are so happy that she will be with us until February.*

*Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year's interns can work entirely remotely and also work beyond the summer months!

What Our Staff Is Up To!
Giavanni Washington, Executive Director
Our fantastic Executive Director, Giavanni Washington, was recently interviewed by City Council candidate for Culver City, Yasmine McMorrin. This thoughtful interview centers around Arts and the Creative Economy. Check out the full interview HERE

Linda Yudin, Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director
Our Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director Linda Yudin had a busy August. In addition to her Dance/USA board member responsibilities, Linda participated in the Silvestre Technique Training Intensive on-line for the entire month of August at 8am-10am Monday-Friday.

"It was a month of great discovery for me and has provided much inspiration as we in Viver Brasil reimagine the company in our 23rd year! Ancestral messages and contemporary technique was a perfect conversation for this dancing AD!"

#VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent -
Dance Iquail

This week's #VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent entry is the Dance Iquail. Dance Iquail uses the universal language of movement as a means to tell the stories usually left untold. They go beyond telling these stories on the stage by offering arts education programs and choreographic training to people of various backgrounds. As Artistic and Executive Director, Iquail Shaheed explains, "Dance Iquail is a 21st century cutting edge dance company that was birthed to not only educate and empower talented dancers and the audience alike, but also to bring positive influence to inner city youth through education and community awareness. Dance Iquail uses the art of dance as a conduit for combating issues of social injustice primarily experienced by the disadvantaged."

Their #talent leave us in awe and their work towards combatting racism with sharing the stories so often left out of the mainstream is worthy of your #money and #voice.
