Performance Spotlight: Avaninha/Ramunha (2017) from Agô Ayó/Spirits Rising

This week's Performance Spotlight is Avaninha/Ramunha (2017) from Agô Ayó/Spirits Rising at the Ford Theatre

This celebratory Avaninha calls upon the sacred energies of the Orixá to share royal ancestral wisdom through movement and gesture. This seminal piece holds space for happiness as we face these difficult & uncertain times. Discovering the ancestral messages will guide us as we heal and grow.

Olivia has worked with Viver Brasil for the past three summers and looks forward to supporting Viver Brasil while pursuing her dance career.
#VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent - artworxLA
This week's #VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent entry is @artworxLA. artworxLA works to offer underserved youth opportunities within art as a mechanism of motivation to stay in school and even plan for their futures. Our incredible dancer, Shelby Williams-Gonzalez @shelbywillgonz is the Executive Director and shared this information about the organization:

artworxLA was founded in 1992 as The HeArt Project to help fill the void in arts education among L.A's youth. As one of the only organizations in the region serving the alternative high school populations and youth 18-24 years old, artworxLA is dedicated to addressing the imbalance in educational and creative opportunities for underserved youth, using the vast cultural resources of Los Angeles to engage students in the arts. By partnering with cultural institutions, arts colleges, and creative industry professionals, we encourage teens to stay in school, earn their high school diploma, and develop a plan for their futures after graduation.

Led by professional teaching artists, artworxLA workshops are theme based and pull from relevant local, national, or global issues that impact student's lives. artworxLA believes that the arts are a tool to amplify our young people's voices, empower them to take creative risks and prepare them for the future of their making.

Knowing the power the arts has to motivate and engage youth to think about their futures, it is worth donating your #money or using your #voice to share about this amazing organization.
