Performance Spotlight:
Avaninha at the Ford Theatres

This week's #PerformanceSpotlight is our performance of Avaninha at Ford Theatres for Viver Brasil’s 20th anniversary concert, Agô Ayó/Spirits Rising.

The celebratory Avaninha calls upon the sacred energies of the orixá through rhythm, song and gesture.  As we revisit this seminal piece from Viver Brasil’s repertoire, the ideas embodied by Obaluaiyê, orixá of health and sickness and epidemic diseases feel more timely than ever.  Join us in a ceremonial meditation of what it means to re-ground, listen to the ancestral messages, come together, and heal in our present reality.

Choreography by Rosangela Silvestre (2009)
Restaged with additional choreography by Vera Passos (2017)
Music Jose Ricardo Sousa with additional arrangements by Kahlil Cummings.

#VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent -
GirlTrek
This week's #VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent entry is GirlTrek.  GirlTrek is the largest public health nonprofit for specifically for African-American women and girls in the United States and uses walking to inspire healthy living as well as a way to empower women to organize and mobilize community members.

As they explain, "Joining GirlTrek's service corps is easy as 1-2-3. First step - walk this Saturday and every Saturday. Use #GirlTrek for the 9am roll call. Second step - compete in fun monthly challenges to build a habit of daily exercise and to get others in your life moving by organizing a trek team! Third and final step - tell somebody! We can't get to a million without you." You can use your time to volunteer and walk, your voice to inspire others to join, or your money to donate! More about the organization:
