Dance Helps People Make Sense Of The World...
And We Need That More Than Ever!

Since 1997, Viver Brasil Dance Company has lived fully into its mission of celebrating the African ancestry in Afro-Brazilian dance, music and culture.  Whether performing on the stage, conducting arts education residencies, promoting cultural immersion in Bahia, or exploring social justice issues through drumming and dancing, Viver Brasil's activities reflect our core values of honoring ancestral wisdom, combating anti-blackness and building joyful community.

This year, while extraordinarily challenging, has been no different.  The arrival of COVID-19 certainly gave us pause.  Viver Brasil took this moment to reimagine and reinvigorate our commitment to Afro-Brazilian art and culture, ultimately taking the entire suite of our programs and productions online.  And we were VICTORIOUS!  

With the support of our enthusiastic audiences (that's you!) and our generous funders we managed to continue our vibrant programming, create new digital programs, train our dancers and musicians, and perform!  Our online platforms allowed us to welcome an entirely new audience reaching over 1200 people in 219 California zip codes, 35 states and 23 countries! 

Even with all of our efforts, COVID 19 resulted in a 65% loss of income. And now, we are asking you to continue your support so that we may thrive in 2021!

Here are some of this year's highlights:

• captured a world wide audience for our community class

• launched a new series called VB In the House: Where the Art Doesn't Stop

• reached thousands of new community members with our Samba In The Streets program online

• continued our residencies at Foshay and Audubon middle schools online

• engaged over 30 women in our SITS Social Justice program

• expanded upon our Orixá workshops with Ebomi Cici, welcoming audience members from 15 countries!

• began weekly company training with our dancers and musicians

• continued our partnership with the Ford/LA Phil with the From the Ford series and LA Soundscapes.
