Why You Should Give:
When COVID-19 came, Viver Brasil took a very deep breath and began reimagining how we could quickly pivot to an online presence with our programs. With the generosity of our funders who encouraged us to rethink our projects, we created a diverse number of programs online, which allowed our artists in Los Angeles and Salvador, Bahia an opportunity to continue to work and learn how to manage the world of Zoom, Instagram and more!

With your support and enthusiastic attendance we did it!   We also trained our dancers and musicians on zoom, worked with middle school youth, crafted a virtual presence with the new FordLA and opened our doors to the new world of virtual programming. We are so grateful that you joined us throughout these extraordinary nine months.

Even with all of our efforts, COVID 19 brought a 65% loss of income. And now, we are asking you to continue your support so that we may thrive in 2021!
Please consider a generous donation which will assist us in keeping our doors open. We thank you in advance so that we can meet our fundraising goal of $15,000 before December 31st!

Performance Spotlight- Disney's Viva Navidad Street Party

Performance Spotlight

Since 2013, Viver Brasil has performed in the well loved, Viva Navidad Street Party at Disney’s California Adventure Park. This year was an exception as the Resort had to close because of COVID 19. For seven amazing seasons we have delighted audiences with our signature Samba de Roda; collaborating with the Relámpago del Cielo Grupo Folklorico, Mariachi Espectacular, and jamming with the Tres Caballeros: Donald Duck, Panchito from Mexico, and Jose Carioca from Brazil, including partying with Mickey and Minnie, and the beautiful Disney Viva Navidad parade cast.

We hope to return in 2021 for more joy and happiness!

Dancer: Ajah Muhammad

Viver Brasil's Celebrating Samba in The Ford's LA Soundscapes!
Watch our Celebrating Samba performance online!

In collaboration with The Ford's series, LA Soundscapes, Viver Brasil performance of Celebrating Samba will air on December 5th at 11am PT. Join us as we showcase selections from our Afro-Brazilian repertoire, including a performance of the Orixá Oxum and a Bloco Afro (parade) spectacle, along with a percussion and interactive dance workshop for the whole family.

LA Soundscapes lets you dive deep into the history, techniques, and culture of dance and music from across Los Angeles with some of The Ford’s most beloved companies. You’ll learn where the dances themselves came from, get a close look at the instrumentation used by the musicians, and – of course – finish it off with step-by-step instructions so you can dance along at home. Get ready to get loose!

#VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent - SCOPE

This week's #VoiceMoneyTimeOrTalent entry is SCOPE (Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education).
For the past 10 years, SCOPE has worked with community organizations, labor unions, and environmental groups in order to uplift the voices of low-income communities of color to fight for environmental justice within their own communities in South LA. Through developing a series of coalitions, they work to create a new economy for South LA through green jobs. They also offer training to increase leadership skills within the communities so they can voice their concerns and create solutions for their own homes. They even work to build climate resilient communities to fight the disproportionate impact of climate change on low-income communities. Their extensive work with many partners across the county is well worthy of your #voice, #money, #time, or #talent.

Mission: Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education (SCOPE) builds grassroots power to create social and economic justice for low-income, immigrant, woman, femme, black, and brown communities in Los Angeles. To do this, SCOPE organizes communities, develops leaders, collaborates through strategic alliances, builds capacity through training programs, and educates South L.A.’s residents to have an active role in shaping policies that affect the quality of life in our region. Justice, respect, responsibility, integrity, and voice: These are our core values.
