More about the Cultural Association House of Sound and Movement
The Cultural Association House of Sound and Movement was created in 2020 by Vera Passos and Nei Sacramento, in order to create an independent space in Salvador, Bahia with the goal to spread art that is accessible to all.  This artistic, cultural and educational space will serve as a center for dance and music from the African Matrix (from Brazil) and from the diverse forms of the African diasporic.

Artistic actions:
  • Contribute to the artistic and cultural formation of children, youth, and adults
  • Receive professionals who work with various dance and musical languages, giving priority to the arts that dialogue with the African Diaspora
  • Provide cultural support for artistic residencies for independent groups, companies and artists to conduct rehearsals and/or short-term residencies studies that are linked to our mission
  • Promote courses, workshops, projects, lectures, artistic exhibitions in various languages and formats for diverse audiences and with the active to inform the communities, the citizens (of Bahia).
  • Promote audience training for dance and music.
Social actions:
  • Offer free dance and music classes for low-income children and adolescents;
  • Create a dance company with these apprentices.
The Cultural Association House of Sound and Movement is the spokesperson of a people who have a voice and will transform these stories into dance and music, seeking to strengthen the connections between art and education, where equality and difference brings us closer.

Our nourishment will come from ancestral sacred symbols that establish the connection between our reality (the earth) and our dreams (the divine). We will produce dialogues where dance and music will express this sacred ancestry which will in turn inform and enhance human awareness for individual growth, strengthening the collective understanding where walking together in community is important and necessary to overcome socio-political dependencies.
